Successful Ammonia Removal from Wastewater Using Liqui-Cel® Membrane Contactors at a European Manufacturing Facility
There are many conventional ways to remove ammonia from water but most of them
produce a secondary waste stream that can cause a whole list of other problems. Membrane Contactors offer a superior solution for stripping Ammonia because they provide a large surface area that facilitates fast separation of the ammonia from the wastewater.
Liqui-Cel® Membrane Contactors offer a great alternative for treating ammonia byproducts in wastewater by extracting it from water and converting it into a ammonium salt, which has some commercial value. Additionally, there is a large cost savings that is realized when using iqui-Cel® Contactors because there is a reduction in the ammonia load on the wastewater treatment system.
The extraction process uses Liqui-Cel® Membrane Contactors. Contactors have been in service for over 10 years in many different applications and are proven to be durable and reliable.

Green gas could add fizz to Coke
Coke is said to be considering tapping two Atlanta landfills as a source of clean-burning natural gas. Methane is naturally produced during decomposition of landfill waste.
The Jacoby Group Inc., which owns the gas rights at DeKalb County’s Live Oak landfill, hopes to process methane gas from the nearby Hickory Ridge landfill into clean-burning natural gas. An out-of-state utility has expressed interest in investing in the project, a source said.
“There’s no secret that we have talked to a number of potential partners about joining us on the [Live Oak] project,” Jacoby Group’s John Borden said. Those potential partners include utilities and private equity investors.
Negotiations are under way, but “we do not have the entire deal even under letter of intent, much less contract,” said an official with Atlanta-based Global Energy Systems, a subsidiary of Global Energy Holdings Group Inc. (Amex: GNH). Global Energy paid more than $3 million to acquire the Hickory Ridge landfill gas purchase rights.
While Coca-Cola declined to comment on any involvement with the potential landfill project, the company wants to add some green to its trademark red.

Oxygen Removal from Water / Deoxygenation
Liqui-Cel® Membrane Contactors are used around the world fordeoxygenation of water and other liquids. O2 negatively impacts many processes; it is corrosive and can oxidize materials. In the power and industrial areas, piping, boilers and equipment are susceptible to corrosion if deaeration is not present. Liqui-Cel® Contactors offer easy-to-operate, modular solutions for degassing and O2 removal from water without chemicals and without large vacuum towers or deaerators. Liqui-Cel® contactors also offer the benefit of simultaneous O2 and CO2removal from water as well as N2 control with one step.

Membrana Launches Spanish Web Site Portal for Liqui-Cel® Membrane Contactors

The new website is written and organized for Spanish speakers so that all product information is easily accessible in native language. The site incorporates navigation that organizes information by primary applications and industries where Liqui-Cel® Membrane Contactors are used. The new website makes it easier for users to identify and select information based on their specific needs. Each landing page contains background information as well as quick links to technical content including data sheets, technical briefs and technical papers specific to the various industries and applications where Liqui-Cel® membrane degassing contactors are currently used.
MicroModule®, MiniModule®, SuperPhobic®, and Liqui-Cel® Membrane Contactors are used around the world for adding or removing oxygen (O2), carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen (N2) to or from different liquids in digital printing, analytical/biotechnology, semiconductor, power, pharmaceutical, photographic, food and beverage, and many other industries. For example, O2 negatively impacts many processes; it is corrosive and can oxidize materials. In the power and industrial areas, piping and equipment are susceptible to corrosion. Specifically to the semiconductor and ink market, high levels of O2 can cause lower yields and slower process speeds.
Liqui-Cel® Contactors are also used to add gasses to liquids to enhance megasonic cleaning. The beverage industry looks to membrane contactors for carbonation, nitrogenation and O2 removal. These reflect only a few examples of the variety of applications where Membrana Membrane Contactors are used.
Membrana’s Industrial Membrane Group also manufactures a variety of membranes used for filtration in various industries and applications.
Polypore International, Inc. (NYSE: PPO) is a global high technology filtration company specializing in microporous membranes. Polypore's flat sheet and hollow fiber membranes are used in specialized applications that require the removal or separation of various materials from liquids, primarily in the ultrafiltration and microfiltration markets. Based in Charlotte, NC, Polypore International, Inc. is a global leader with manufacturing facilities or sales offices in nine countries serving six continents.
